THE RADICAL SPIRIT is an online journal featuring passionate and provocative reflections by Unitarian Universalist seminarians. It hopes to inspire deep conversation and bold action that will rekindle the sacred fire of this faith tradition.
About the Name
In 1936, the Commission on Appraisal to the American Unitarian Association prophetically probed: Has our faith any real function in the modern world? Writing at a time of cultural disillusionment and political fragmentation, the Commission affirmed its faithful hope in the promise of liberal religion: “The radical spirit of the founders and re-founders of Unitarianism may be the inspiration for our present effort to re-think and re-formulate the purposes of our movement; but some of the basic ideas and certainly the specific phrases used must be worked out in light of the present situation.”
Leaping across the threshold of the 21st century, Unitarian Universalism must once again discern its function in the (post) modern world.
